Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood in The West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" area. The West Island has a lot of communities. Many who've never heard of it often confuse it with a separate, west-facing island. Many times, it is credited as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was short. Brugel grew to be a young woman in Courtice Ontario, just outside Oshawa. She aspired to be professional, however due to an explosive growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partners. The Toronto Star article revealed she's 6ft 1in tall in heels. When I surpassed the size of my male companion and stopped dancing, I quit. Numerous former dancers choose to become actors. For Brugel it was because of the advice from her drama teacher at high school that led her in the direction she needed. The teacher suggested she try getting a part in the school's annual production. Following a trial the role, she was chosen as the lead actress for Anne of Green Gables. After receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Over the last 20 years, Brugel's work been seen on both the small and big screen. Her work gained most recognition when she landed her character of Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the only Canadian cast member in the season 1 of the show and was not seen much.
